HALOTHERAPY FAQ

You probably have already experienced a wet form of salt therapy like gargling salt water, pouring salt into a bath, using a saline solution treatment, or rinsing your nasal cavity with a nettie pot. While wet salt therapy is useful, dry salt therapy is far more impactful. We at SALIS use a new innovation called halogenerators to effectively deliver salt therapy to our clients.
The way halogenerators work is by heating salt and releasing it in the air. The heat helps the salt to combine with the moisture to make it easier to inhale. Once inhaled, the salt particles make their way deep into your lungs, bronchi, bronchioles, and alveoli. Your body then breaks down the salt and the particles to expel toxins from the respiratory system. Salt particles that land on your skin helps to treat conditions like eczema, psoriasis, dermatitis, and acne, among others.
You can use halotherapy to treat all of these conditions:

  • Acne
  • Allergies
  • Anxiety
  • Asthma
  • Bronchitis
  • Chronic ENT
  • Cold/Flu
  • COPD
  • Cystic Fibrosis
  • Depression
  • Dermatitis
  • Ear Infection
  • Eczema
  • Emphysema
  • Fatigue
  • Hay Fever
  • Influenza
  • Insomnia
  • Migraines
  • Osteoporosis
  • Pneumonia
  • Psoriasis
  • Rhinitis
  • Rosacea
  • Sinus Infection
  • Sinusitis
  • Smoker's Cough
  • Snoring
  • Stress/Fatigue
  • Wheezing
Adults and children alike can benefit from halotherapy. Although, in order to experience the full effects, regular sessions are advised. Whether you are looking to treat something specific or simply looking to enhance your overall well-being, halotherapy can make a difference in your life.
Halotherapy complements your medication and treatment plan, enabling you to find relief from prolonged or chronic symptoms. Beyond that, though, halotherapy is relaxing. It is a pleasant experience, affording you quiet and peace away from your day-to-day stresses. Jet lag, workout tensions, and even regular stress will all melt away. Halotherapy can also aid in slowing the signs of ageing. Try it and see what it can do for you.
Yes, halotherapy is safe for children. In fact, children often respond to this treatment faster than adults.

Most will experience some results after a single session. However, the number of sessions will depend on your body’s specific needs. You may need to go through additional treatments depending on how severe your symptoms are and how much of a difference you would like to see.

We recommend introducing halotherapy into your lifestyle 2-3 times a week for a period of 3-4 weeks during allergy and flu seasons. But, if your condition is chronic, try attending sessions twice a week for a period of 6-8 weeks. You could even enjoy it every day if you choose to, there is no limit to the number of times you can go every week.

The FDA has not yet released official protocols for dry salt therapy in the US. In Europe, meanwhile, protocols are as follows:

  • Asthma (mild): 12-14 days
  • Asthma (severe): 18-21 days
  • Acute bronchitis: 12-14 days
  • Recurrent bronchitis: 12-14 days
  • Chronic obstructive bronchitis: 18-21 days
  • Pneumonia after acute stage: 12-14 days
  • Cystic fibrosis: 20-25 days
  • Chronic sinusitis: 14-18 days
  • Acute sinusitis: 3-5 days
  • Hay fever: 12-14 days

PLEASE NOTE: Chronic symptoms respond best to complete sessions attended consecutively. Although we recommend attending sessions daily, three times weekly is best for the harshest circumstances.

Side effects are slight and short term. You may feel a tickle in your throat, that is simply a sign of dryness. It also means the salt is breaking down your mucus to reduce and eliminate toxins.

Not at all, continue taking your prescribed medication. Salt therapy is a natural treatment, which means it won't interfere with your medications. If you feel you need to lessen your dose, consult your doctor before making any changes.

Having too much salt in your diet can result in high blood pressure. Salt therapy, however, is different. When you inhale dry aerosol salt it does not enter your stomach, it enters your respiratory system as well as your lungs. In addition, the salt particles are so small that they will not impact your health negatively.

Because of the anti-inflammatory, antifungal and antibacterial properties of the salt, our halotherapy treatment rooms are completely sterile. Our ventilation system filters out the unclean air and replaces it with clean air.

We use 100% Himalayan salt on our walls and floors and 100% pharmaceutical-grade salt (sodium chloride) in our halogenerators.

Because sea air is moist, it is not an effective healing process as salt therapy. Salt is anti-inflammatory and soaks up moisture, which means that as you breathe it in, it will soak up the fluids in your inflamed respiratory system. The fluid then helps clear toxins out of your body.

After completing our client SALIS form, kindly remove any jewelry, glasses and other metals because salt can corrode them. Once you remove your shoes as well, you will enter the halotherapy treatment room. Remember to relax and take deep breaths. We also provide lightweight blankets to keep you warm in our cool therapy rooms.

Of course. A Halotherapy session is an extremely simple way to spend 40-minutes. You simply walk in the salt room and breathe in the salt particles. You can also bring something to read, sleep or just sit back, relax and meditate. You are in control of how you spend your time. Make the most of it by letting go of the outside world. Don’t worry about the slight tickle you will feel in your throat or taste on your lips, that simply means the halotherapy is working.

Yes, we offer private rooms.

Wear something loose and comfortable. If you are hoping to treat a skin condition, leave that part of your skin exposed.
